Helping children break the cycle of poverty goes beyond providing access to education – it’s about creating a safe and supportive environment for them. We are committed to protecting the dignity of children we work with and keeping them safe from abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harm.
Kafalat’s Child Protection Policy sets clear guidelines to ensure the safety, privacy, and well-being of the children we support. These include protocols for appropriate child photo usage, contact with sponsored children, and responsible social media conduct.
Showcasing Photos of Sponsored Children
When you become a sponsor, you start a special connection with your sponsored child. While it’s wonderful to showcase the impact you’re making, please remember your responsibility towards protecting the child.
You may display photos and some basic information (first name, age) of your sponsored child in your home or personal workspace to encourage others to help children in need. However, please avoid disclosing further personal information (such as their last, name, address, etc.) that could be misused or used to locate them. These details are purely meant for our official sponsorship communications and are not meant to be shared.
Emailing or Publishing Photos of your Sponsored Child Online
Sharing, publishing, or emailing personal details or photos of your sponsored child can put their privacy and personal safety at risk. We urge you to refrain from sharing their photo, personal information, and any sensitive or confidential information on websites, social media, or through email.
Downloading Images of Sponsored Children
Any potential misuse of children’s photographs on the web is taken very seriously by our team. Downloading, copying, or replicating photos or other information related to children from our website or social media pages without our prior written permission is prohibited. Any inappropriate use will result in legal action.
If you see any improper or indecent content, text, image, or video of sponsored children online, report it to us immediately.
We prioritise the best interests of sponsored children throughout our association with them. We have set measures to protect children during any sponsor-child interaction and ensure they are safe from potential physical or emotional abuse.
Calls and E-mails.
When you sponsor a child’s education, you agree not to attempt to contact the sponsored child, their family, or community members via phone calls or email without written permission from our team. Sponsors should never share personal phone numbers or other contact details with the children.
Planned Visits
You’re welcome to visit the child you sponsor and meet their family, provided you follow the guidelines in place. Visits are allowed only under the supervision of the Kafalat team member(s) and a parent/guardian of the child. Please dress appropriately during any planned visit.
Unplanned or unsanctioned visits to your sponsored child’s home or community are strictly prohibited. Sponsors and visitors are not allowed to take the child outside their home or invite them elsewhere. We may conduct background checks for anyone meeting a sponsored child to ensure safety.
Contact our team at least 2 weeks in advance to arrange a planned visit.
Letters and Gifts
You can send a letter or a gift to your sponsored child as a gesture of encouragement. Please note that any communication to your child shall be addressed to Kafalat and all letters and gifts are reviewed before being delivered.
Being an organisation focused on the betterment of children, we understand the risks social media can pose to children’s safety and ask sponsors to follow safe and responsible social media practices.
To protect the sponsored children and their families, we ask that sponsors avoid any direct and unmonitored contact or correspondence with them through the internet or social media platforms. Please refrain from posting your sponsored child’s last name, contact details, or location on social media or other digital platforms.
We equally value your privacy as a sponsor. As a result, sponsored children and families are discouraged from contacting you without our team’s knowledge and your consent. Both the sponsor and the child should not make any social media requests or accept any such requests made towards each other.
To protect everyone involved, if you are contacted directly by the child or their family, or witness a breach of any of the aforementioned guidelines, please notify our team immediately.
