Witnessing the hardships faced by underprivileged families in accessing affordable education, nutrition, and healthcare, a group of like-minded professionals came together to give every child a chance to complete their education without any discrimination based on gender, religion, caste, or financial background.
Over the years, we have grown our small project into a larger initiative, working for the welfare of hundreds of vulnerable children and families in low-income communities.
The Kafalat initiative was launched by IRTC and PSF Mumbai to bring meaningful change in the lives of children through education.
We began our mission with a modest start, raising ₹2.5 lakhs and sponsoring 18 underprivileged students in the first year.
We expanded our reach further, raising ₹4.2 lakhs and supporting 27 students with education sponsorships. We responded to the catastrophic floods in Kanwad, Kolhapur, and started a campaign to construct new houses for 34 families who had lost their homes in the disaster. We also began crucial repair and rehabilitation work of local schools in the village. The houses were successfully handed over to the families in 2021.
We sponsored 78 students, with fundraising efforts totalling ₹7.7 lakhs. The COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges, exacerbating hardships of already vulnerable families. We provided crucial relief by distributing food packets, ration kits, and medicines to over 22,000+ families during this difficult time.
Our outreach efforts grew, helping us raise ₹10.8 lakhs in funding to support and sponsor 101 students. We continued relief efforts to help families impacted by the pandemic. We launched a successful campaign to provide emergency assistance to a Jogeshwari-based home beautician who had lost her home and belongings in a cylinder blast. We also extended emergency relief to victims of the devastating floods in Mahad, Konkan.
Our child sponsorship program helped 132 children have a brighter future.
Sustaining our growth, we sponsored quality education for 158 children in need, thanks to the rising support from the community.
This year, we reached a new milestone and sponsored 240 students for their school fees and academic expenses. The generosity of our sponsors, donors, and other contributors helped us raise ₹29 lakhs in funding. We hold guidance and counselling sessions every year for families and students in Jogeshwari and Malwani. The second instalment of school fees is also distributed during these sessions to relevant campaigns.
